Balancing Competing needs: Meeting the needs of neurodivergent parents and their neurodivergent children.

Join Dr Clara O'Byrne for this webinar which supports Neurodivergent Parents as they navigate the demands and complexities of parenting and the caring role.

This webinar will focus understanding the importance of self-regulation and its role in providing the emotional foundation needed to effectively support others. Co-regulation involves creating an emotionally safe environment for young people to learn the skills necessary to regulate themselves. Changing perspectives on brain/body difference will be explored. Positive psychology approaches to support neurodivergent humans will be explored along with some practical tips to accommodate, affirm, and advocate.

In this webinar participants will

· Develop knowledge about the window of tolerance and to reduce emotional reactivity.

· Learn the difference between distress tolerance skills and capacity building skills

· Recognise the importance of calm regulated adults to support and co-regulate developing brains.

· Participants will develop a greater understanding of the Fight/Flight/Freeze response and understand the importance of Regulate, Relate and Reason approaches.

Dr Clara is a Chartered Psychologist and Neurodiversity Advocate. A former special school teacher and NCSE advisor, she runs a private practice in West Cork. Dr Clara’s extensive training has focused on neuro-affirming practice, coaching psychology, brain/body connection, stress management and science of wellbeing. Tanya Farrelly is the author of four books: two short fiction collections: When Black Dogs Sing (Kate O’ Brien Award 2017) and Nobody Needs To Know. (Arlen House, 2021), and two psychological thrillers: The Girl Behind the Lens and When Your Eyes Close (Harper Collins) She holds a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from Bangor University, Wales and was appointed Writer-in-Residence at NUI Galway in 2021. Tanya is a recipient of an Arts Council Agility Award and has been selected for the Basic Income for the Arts Pilot Scheme.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our upcoming webinar “Work, Informal Care, and Money – Balancing Responsibilities and Financial Well-being”, organised within the EQUAL-CARE project.
 
During the session we will explore:
 
•           Challenges of combining employment and informal care
•           Financial pressures and hidden costs of unpaid care
•           Rights, benefits, and existing support mechanisms for carers
•           Managing household finances and long-term security
•           Re-entering or navigating the job market as a carer
•           Supporting dual-role carers – formal care workers who also provide care at home
 
You will hear from leading experts from across Europe, bringing perspectives from research, policy, grassroots advocacy, and services supporting persons with disabilities.

Participants are also encouraged to think in advance about questions they may wish to ask the speakers, as there will be time for discussion during the webinar.
 
The EQUAL-CARE project aims to address the gender care gap in both formal care work and informal family caregiving by developing tools, training, and awareness initiatives that challenge stereotypes and promote equal opportunities for all carers.

Gentle Exercises & Yin Yoga. Theresa will combine gentle movement with some yin yoga which focusses on deep, long stretches.

  1. Friday 12th June: 2pm-3pm

Chair Yoga. Theresa will guide us through a chair yoga practice, suitable for all abilities.

  1. Sunday 14th June. 12pm-1pm.

Yoga. Join Theresa for a yoga class with slow, accessible movements to help release tension and calm the mind.

 

Presenter Theresa Donoghue is based in Galway, she is a Yoga Practitioner and Wellness Coach who specialises in Nutrition and Acupuncture.

Join Tanya for this creative writing workshop for family carers. The focus will be, on fiction writing and building worlds - using the senses to create our settings.

Tanya Farrelly is the author of four books: two short fiction collections: When Black Dogs Sing (Kate O’ Brien Award 2017) and Nobody Needs To Know. (Arlen House, 2021), and two psychological thrillers: The Girl Behind the Lens and When Your Eyes Close (Harper Collins) She holds a PhD in Creative and Critical Writing from Bangor University, Wales and was appointed Writer-in-Residence at NUI Galway in 2021. Tanya is a recipient of an Arts Council Agility Award and has been selected for the Basic Income for the Arts Pilot Scheme.

Music helps people heal, grow and connect. Join us for some music appreciation, relaxation and mindfulness-focused music experiences this National Carers Week.

There are two sessions this week: Tuesday 9th at 7.30pm & Sunday 14th at 7.30pm. You are welcome to one or both sessions.

Music therapy is a clinically recognised therapeutic approach using music and creative activities to support emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development. It helps people to express feelings, build confidence, improve communication, develop social skills, and enhance overall wellbeing.

Cathy Quinn (Solace in Sound) is a HCPC registered music therapist, providing mobile music therapy sessions for children, young people, and families.
