Therapeutic Hand Massage

Free Health Checks - Nationwide
Unicare/DocMorris Pharmacies are running free health checks for Family Carers during National Carers Week and throughout June 2011. Vouchers for free health checks can be obtained by calling the The Carers Association Careline on 1800 24 07 24 (Monday to Friday 9am-5:30pm), or through any of the organisations 18 resource centres. (http://www.carersireland.com/services_resourcecentres.php) or by downloading a voucher from their website http://www.carersireland.com/membership.php
Health Checks include Cholesterol Testing, Diabetes Screening, Blood Pressure Measuring and BMI Check. Your voucher will contain details about which Health Checks are available in which pharmacies.

On Wednesday 15th June, 6.30pm – 9.30pm we will deliver the final sessions of our 5 week Family Carer Training course, ‘Living with Dementia’ in the Mallow Primary Healthcare Centre, Mallow, Co. Cork. The course has been aimed at developing family carers’ knowledge of dementia and their caring skills while providing them with opportunity to share experiences, learn, gain support from each other and interact with trainers in a relaxed environment. In this final session we will present course certificates and celebrate National Carers Week 2011 with a special tea party acknowledging the importance of the work family carers do.
This event is for the 25 carers already enrolled on the course and will not be open to general admission.

The aim of the National Dementia Summit is to bring together people with dementia and family carers to listen and learn from them regarding their experience of living with dementia. We want to hear what people believe is necessary to live a good life with dementia. The information that we collect will go directly towards the Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s political lobbying efforts over the next three years in particular to inform the development of a National Dementia Strategy.

On Thursday 16th June, 6.30pm – 9.30pm we will deliver the final sessions of our 5 week Family Carer Training course, ‘Living with Dementia’. The course has been aimed at developing family carers’ knowledge of dementia and their caring skills while providing them with opportunity to share experiences, learn, gain support from each other and interact with trainers in a relaxed environment.
In this final session we will present course certificates and celebrate National Carers Week 2011 with a special tea party acknowledging the importance of the work family carers do.
This event is for the 18 carers already enrolled on the course and will not be open to general admission.

There will be information available on dementia as well as information on supports for family carers. Representatives from the HSE will be available to answer questions on The Fair Deal & Home Care Packages.
Stauntons Pharmacy Ltd will be providing health checks for carers including Blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol testing. (For accurate glucose and cholesterol measurements carers should come fasting.) They will also have a sample of Biodose blister packs, an innovative blister pack system that will be available from August.
HomeCare Medical will have a representative present with equipment aids and other useful tools.
