A gentle yoga class for carers - this is a little time out and space for just for you! This class is for beginners and you can take it at your own space, so don't worry if you have never done yoga before. What you’ll need * a yoga mat if you have one but if not a piece of floor that you won’t slip on is just as good * a pillow or cushion can be good to have to hand to use as a prop ( yoga blocks and bolster if you have them) * something cozy for the relaxation part of the class- it can be nice to have a blanket over you

Thu 10 Jun St. Michael's House - Compassion Focused Therapy Workshop 8pm

Event Number 285

Details

Carers are invited to participate in a Compassion Focused Therapy This workshop is based on Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) that supports carers to think about how to bring self kindness into their life. It will be delivered by Dr Manus Moynihan (Senior Clinical Psychologist, CAMHS-ID team) and Dr Anita Hyland (Senior Clinical Psychologist, MHID team) on Thursday, 10th June, 6.30-7.30pm. CFT is a model of psychotherapy which aims to support people to understand their motivations, thoughts, and feelings. The compassion focus supports people to be kinder to themselves in periods of high stress, high self-criticism, and hopelessness. CFT links strong feelings to acknowledging that these feelings are understandable in the here and now, and how emotions work in our body. Caring for people can be very challenging and stressful. Often carers describe feeling burnt out, and can experience self-critical feelings in this role, including frustration, anger, and sadness. By taking a kinder position in response to strong feelings, it has been suggested that people can take steps to manage better in the here and now (Gilbert, 2010). This does not dismiss their feelings, but tries to find ways to consider them in a new light. We hope this workshop is useful to all SMH supporters and carers. We ask that attendees bring a pen and paper to participate in an activity with us during the workshop, where we will look at creating a bundle of activities which promote self-kindness.

Fri 11 Jun Q & A: The Irish Hospice Foundation; Planning Ahead 2pm

Event Number 272

Details

For all of us, there may come a time when we might want to think and plan ahead for the future care of ourselves and the people and things that we value. Thinking and planning ahead can give us a sense of control and reassurance about what is important to us, and can inform the people we love and care about.

At this event, Zoe (Care Alliance Ireland) will be joined live, on the National Carers Week Facebook page, by Rebecca Llyoyd, Public Engagement Officer for the Irish Hospice Foundation. Using the Facebook live chat you can ask questions and make comments, find out information about resources available to help you and your family and the person you care for plan ahead

.............

Rebecca Lloyd is the Public Engagement officer for Irish Hospice Foundation and is passionate about helping people plan ahead and giving them as much information they need. Her mantra is that every one of us carries both wisdom and worries, and can help and help in equal measure. Coming together to talk about our worries and to share in our wisdom is crucial in making better and more productive communities and societies. Rebecca has a Master's of Science which concentrated on talking with non-medical professionals' experiences when managing the dying and bereaved. Rebecca believes we have not yet scratched the surface of what people can do to help and support each other. Rebecca hosts café conversations, workshops, and talks around the country to encourage people to talk a little more openly about dying, death, loss, and bereavement in a safe space, where laughter and tears are shared openly.
